Easter 2010 program

Are you dreaming of large white plains of snow as far as the eye can see? Would you like to see untouched nature, making your own tracks through the snow? The sun is shining, the snow is glittering, a mug of hot chocolate, an orange, and just silence - OpplevOdda invite you on an Easter special cross-country hike on Hardangervidda, northern Europe's largest mountain plateau, and Norway's largest national park. You'll experience Hardangervidda's greatness with wavy plains and steep mountain peaks, as well as a lot of exciting weather.

The most fascinating is how quickly the weather can change. A morning of grey and unwelcoming clouds can suddenly change to beautiful sunshine within minutes. So don't give up for fear of bad weather - you'll only miss out on an amazing experience. But wear good, sensible clothing, listen to experienced hikers and always take a map and compass.

This is a classic Norwegian Easter hike, offering a great variety of day hikes, cabins and landscape. You need some experience of hiking in mountains to sign up for this trip.

Day 1: March 28

Arrival and dinner at Vasstun Gjestehus.

Day 2: March 29

Breakfast at Vasstun, travel by bus to Dyranut Fjellstove.

The first lap is from Dyranut to Sandhaug. It's in easy terrain, and you'll get a wide and stunning view of the Hårteigen mountain peak to the west, Gaustatoppen to the southeast and Hardangerjøkulen to the north.

Sandhaug is a staffed cabin.

Length: 28km

Day 3: March 30

From Sandhaug we'll head west to Hadlaskar, at the top of the Veig valley, right by a river and surrounded by old mountain farms. Beautifully situated in an exuberant valley stretching from Eidfjord.

Hadlaskard is unmanaged and there's no electricity or water in the cabin, and we're going to have to prepare food ourselves.

Length: 20km

Day 4: March 31

On day 4 we're heading to Litlos, via Hårteigen, also called the grey guide, as you can see it from almost everywhere on the Hardangervidda.

After 24km you can finally take off your skis and enjoy a delicious dinner at Litlos along with other like-minded mountain lovers.

Day 5: April 01

From Litlos we'll continue to Tyssevassbu, which is known to be the best of the unmanaged cabins in Norway, and it's even got electricity. Despite this, there are not many people making it to Tyssevassbu, west on the Hardangervidda. Which means they miss out on a stunning and wild landscape, which would be worth the trip on its own.

Length: 24km

Day 6: April 02

On day six we'll be returning to Odda, and Vasstun Gjestehus. On our way, we'll pass the unique attraction of Trolltunga, and follow Ringedalen down towards Tyssedal.

After six days on skis, it will be wonderful to get a hot shower, a delicious dinner, and a soft bed at Vasstun.

Length: 18km

Day 7: April 03

Guided tour of Odda. The day will end with a three-course dinner and a concert at 'The Great Easter Party' in Odda.
